In what way were the majority of the settlers known as 49ers different from other settlers in the western territories?

    They were different because they went westwards in search of gold. Early ones went with families but later almost only males went westwards in search of easy money. Many wanted to find gold and then return to where they came from since everyone moved there from all over the world.
