    Black Africans had fought in World War I in British & French armies. Many Africans hoped they would be rewarded with independence after war; as 1 newspaper in Gold Coast argued, if African volunteers who fought on European battlefields were "good enough to fight & die in Empire's cause, they were good enough to receive independence".

    So the answer is True.
