The fourteenth amendment states that no person shall be denied the rights that all other naturalized citizens have. This indirectly includes slaves because they were born and raised on US land. It allows slaves to be able to be free, and begin their own lives by receiving the right to own land. This also means, that they receive equal protection of any form under the US.
