Juan Vucetich was the first person to successfully identify a person using fingerprints at the scene of a murder investigation. In 1892, a couple of boys were murdered in Necochea, a village near Buenos Aires, Argentina. The prime suspect was a man named Velasquez. He continued to deny that he committed the murder even until intense interrogation. The investigators found a bloody fingerprint at the crime scene and contacted Juan Vucetich who was working on a project to use fingerprints for identification. Vucetich compared the fingerprint to the fingerprints of Velasquez and that of the boy's mother, Francisca Rojas. The match was that of Francisca Rojas. She denied touching the boys and then when confronted with the fingerprint match, confessed to the crime.
