How were corporations such as standard oil able to negotiate rebates from the railroads?

    They transported a lot and therefore asked for benefits as they were important for each other. The smaller farmers or manufacturers weren't using their services this much so they were angry that they couldn't negotiate the prices and get better working conditions.
