The Pullman strike in 1894 began when the Pullman workers' union voted for a wildcat strike.

The administration in the company reduced the employees' paychecks, but didn't reduce their living bills. So now they were left with less money and more work (and many people were completely laid off). This is why they decided to form a union and fight for their rights, beginning with the strike of 1894.
