Eighteen hospitals and thirty-two clinics were destroyed in the bombing of Hiroshima. Medical facilities were in the area close to where the bomb was dropped, so destruction of medical facilities and casualty counts of medical workers were high. Since the intent of the atomic bombing was to destroy Japanese morale to get them to surrender and give up the war, this was seen as contributing to that purpose.
