How was the election of 1824 decided?

    No presidential candidate won the majority of the electoral vote, so the decision was left to the House of Representatives. Even though this was a dictation to the 12th amendment that says, "should there be no majority vote for one person, the House of Representatives ... chooses the president and Vice President." The president of United States was James Monroe, 1824.
