What was the main benefit of the interchangeable parts created by Eli Whitney?

    2--the same parts could be used to replace broken parts of a machine.

    The idea of interchangeable parts changes how machines were created. If a machine broke prior it might have meant losing the machine for weeks if not for good. With parts created in mass, people could have parts on hand to fix machines immediately preventing a delay in production.
