A - Allen Wright. In 1866 Choctaw chief, Allen Wright named Oklahoma during the treaty negotiations with the federal government in regards to the use of the Indian territory. He envisioned all Indian states controlled by the United States superintendent of Indian Affairs.

The name Oklahoma originates from Choctaw which literally means red people. The land was added to the U. S as part of the Lousiana purchase of 1803.
