    BC means Before Christ and AD means Anno Domini, or the year of our lord in English. BCE means before common era while CE means common era. Using the first method implies that all history of humankind has revolved around the notion of Jesus Christ which is not true and is a Christian way of observing things. Using the common era markings you can incorporate all of the world instead of just the Christian world.
