The 1800’s is the time where Industrial Revolution was ongoing. Most world powers at that time, like Great Britain, Belgium, France, Japan, Sweden, Germany, and Japan, have strong industrial bases and so it is not right to say they have extractive economies. At that time, new advances in technology enabled production of machines, new chemicals, and production processes that enabled goods to be produced faster, cheaper, and with less manpower. At that time in the United States was rapidly expanding westward, acquiring huge quantity of excellent farmland and making high returns in agriculture. US would have to wait for the next century to fully industrialize.
