Why was the united states willing to accept only a limited number of jewish refugees?

    The U. S. was operating under the idea of isolationism. To comply with this they could not accept many refugees. Refugees would also compete with American workers. U. S. government didn't want to hurt Americans looking for work by bringing in refugees that would work for less.
