How were Massanet's views about protection of the missions different from those of De Leon

    Massanet proposed that soldiers should be positioned away from the natives since they would frighten the priests if stationed nearby and decrease their trust in the priests. He also believed that lesser military contingent should be placed at San Francisco de los Tejas. De Leon, on the other hand, wanted to set up more military forces. He also befriended the natives by offering them tobacco and biscuits.
