    In the dead zone of the Gulf of Mexico, the oxygen levels are much lower than normal and the area is considered to be highly hypoxic. This is because it is a drainage basin where a lot of things that bind oxygen are deposited and this prevents the air from being rich in oxygen and it makes it more difficult for animals and people to live there.
