In the election of 1824, Jackson has the most popular votes, but no candidate (there were more than two) won the majority (more than 50%) so Congress chose the next president. Even though Jackson got more popular votes, congress chose John Q Adams in a "corrupt election". This changed politics by making Jackson decrease Congress's power and fought for the common man.
