How was east asian civilization different from other postclassical civilizations in terms of cultural diffusion?

Compared to other postclassical civilizations, East Asian civilizations decided to maintain their independence from the rest of the world, which merely became Orthodox, and further developed their distinctive cultures, only adopting those aspects from other cultures as they see would fit to their respective cultures.
