    The 15th century was just about when feudalism gave way to capitalism since the Renaissance started in the 16th Century with nascent capitalism in Italy. So during feudalism or the Middle Ages, one was born into a set social rank and stayed in that position until one died and one had to respect the absolute authority of the king and religion sanctioned this situation. Christian liberty did not develop until the subsequent rise of capitalism.
