Hello! New York and Massachusetts were Northern Colonies, which didn't have slavery. Therefore, B and D are eliminated. Virginia had lots of slaves, but Maryland had free their slaves years after the Revolutionary War. South Carolina and Georgia really needed slaves, because they had a lot of farming, and had some of the most slaves at the start of the Civil War. The answer is C.
