To gain support for the Constitution, mainly in New York, a group of three men wrote a series of articles arguing for federalism-that is, for the Constitution. The articles were published in newspapers under the pseudonym Publius. (A pseudonym is a false, or fictitious name.) These articles eventually became known as The Federalist Papers, or The Federalist.
