Why did the islamic community falter when european nations started trading by sea

The Islamic community faltered because they can no longer trade with the European nations. The Ottoman Empire had closed off the trade routes between Asia and Europe. Aside from that, European nations find it much easier to use the water routes instead of the land routes because they are much safer.
