The united states supported china. why didn't the united states go to war sooner against japan

    Going to war with Japan would mean also going to war with Germany and Italy, its allies. And the United States was still wary of getting involved in another global conflict after World War I. China seemed very far away, and Japan did not seem a direct threat to the national security of the United States ... until Japan launched its attack on US territory itself, at Pearl Harbor.
