What did Thomas jefferson do that made a positive impact on American society? Why is it significant?

    Heading the Democratic-Republican party, Jefferson used his treaty-making powers to purchase the Louisiana Territory. This significant purchase doubled the size of the United States and gained control over the Mississippi River. In addition, Americans moved west to seek opportunity, all because of Jefferson.
