    The Marine troops sent in by Reagan to assist with various peacekeeping missions were attacked at their own Barracks. The barracks had been completely destroyed resulting in hundreds of lost lives. The goal was to disarm the many militias operating in Lebanon. However, the US ended up withdrawing.
