Why didn't the united states try to solve the slavery crisis the way britain did in the caribbean--by adopting compensation for slaveowners and a system of gradual emancipation and apprenticeship for slaves?

    The United States wasnt able to solve the slavery crisis since many of its states economies relied on the use of slaves and America was already in debt and had trouble establishing a succesful form of taxation so it made compensation difficult and would collapse the economy at the time
