When Columbus first sailed for his first expedition in 1492 with the intention of landing in Japan, he reached an archipelago now known as Bahamas. He mistakenly concluded that he has finally reached the Asia, particularly, the Indies, and gave the archipelago a name of San Salvador or Holy Savior.
