Why did the un impose economic sanctions in iraq after the 1991 gulf war?

    They imposed sanctions in order to make Iraq pay for war reparations in Kuwait, retreat completely, and disclose their plans and ownership of weapons of mass destruction. The war in Iraq was later led because of the weapons that were believed to have existed while in reality there were none.
