The defeat in the First World War brought about the end of the German Empire. It gave place to the Weimar Republic. In the aftermath of the war, Germany experienced serious social and economic trouble. Unemployment, precariousness, hyperinflation and the effects of the Great Depression supposed a heavy burden for the economy. This caused political instability and weak governments. At some moment, the German government had to stop paying war reparations to France and Britain. These events sowed the seeds for the Nazi rise to power.
