The terms "Patriot" and "Loyalist" came from the time period of The Boston Tea Party, The Boston Massacre, and the Declaration of Independence. These two terms defined two different types of people. Patriots were those who were opposing British taxes. Loyalists were loyal to the King of England and supported the taxes.
