Explanation:

The French and Indian War was the part of the Seven Years' War whose battlefield was in America. The ratio was around 60,000 French to 2 million English settlers, hence the French were forced to unite with the local population: the Indians.

This war - as a series of skirmishes and battles fought with small forces in unmanaged areas of the continent - was one of the indirect causes, and at the same time part of a wider international conflict fought mainly in Europe, called the Seven Years' War.

The 9-year conflict ended with the conclusion of the Treaty of Paris, a peace agreement favorable to the British in 1763, but at the same time laid the foundations for the birth of the separatist (and soon independence) movement of the inhabitants of Thirteen Colonies, who were already beginning to call themselves Americans.
