The French and Indian War benefited Britain by greatly expanding its territory in the New World. However, the cost of the war was almost prohibitive, and by the end the British government faced bankruptcy. Its military actions concerning territories in India during the Seven Years' War also limited its profits from the East India Co. It now needed desperately to recoup costs, which led to its taxing American colonists.

The British victory in the French and Indian War had a great impact on the British Empire. Firstly, it meant a great expansion of British territorial claims in the New World. But the cost of the war had greatly enlarged Britain's debt ... The war had an equally profound but very different effect on the American colonists.
