1. Why did the invading American soldiers suffer so many casualties on D-Day?

    The Germans had set up blocks in the sea so that many of the boats could not land on land and the soldiers had to move through the water. In addition to that, the Germans had bunkers with machine guns set up and barbed wire on the beaches.

    One reason could be because of the bad weather that day and the waves the soldiers came in
