    Answer: Martin Luther was a threat to the throne because he challenged the Kings divine rights and taught that salvation is through faith and not through Good deeds.

    At the time, indulgences (or payments made to the church in order to cover for sins committed) were something heavily stressed by the Roman Catholic Church. Martin Luther, a Biblical scholar, realized that what the Catholic Church was stating was backed up in the Bible nowhere, which eventually lead to the conflict between him and the Church, causing the outbreak of Protestantism.
