How did the patterns of immigration change in the United States in the late 1800s?

    The number of immigrants entering the United states increased dramatically during the early 1800s as most of this immigrants where leaving their countries in search of greener pastures. Most of this immigrants viewed America as an economically developed country with lots of opportunities.

    Before the civil war, most immigrants where from Germany, England and Ireland but this was about to change as immigrants from all over the world began to enter into America in the late 1800s.

    Immigrants entered the United States through different ports. Immigrants from Europe enters through the East Coast facilities, while immigrants from Asia came through West Coast centers. Over 70% of all immigrants entered through New York City which was later regarded as the "Golden Door."
