    Explanation:

    The United States government, in the beginning, lied to the public about the horrific casualties in the Vietnam War, declaring that everything was normal. The Pentagon Papers were the top-secret official reports which revealed some secrets of the Vietnam War. The small portion of the report was given to the New York Times by military analyst Daniel Ellsberg in 1971.
