What steps did the federal government take to defend reconstruction from democratic redeemers?

    They passed Enforcement Acts, created a United Stated Department of Justice, passed the Klu Klux Klan Act, and also sent many officers to arrest many K. K. K. members. It seemed though that what they did wasn't enough.
