He reached Hispaniola, Santa Domingo and he was the given the job of a notary and stayed in the island for four years. He landed at Yucatan peninsula with his five hundred men and he also felt friendly with a native woman who was able to translate for him. Cortez heard of the golden treasures in Aztec empire, He requested a meeting with the monarch of Aztec but it was turned down frequently. He decided to march towards the capital of Aztec and joined hands with the people who were against the emperor.
