Explain the Enlightenment and what it had to do with the American Declaration of Independence.

The Enlightenment era was a time of mass religious awakening and when people began to recognize their natural rights and stray away from the church. This directly influenced the creation of the Declaration because of the "natural" rights presented in it, such as the right to freedom of religion in the first amendment.
