    Explanation:

    African - Americans contributed to the war in both Union and Confederate. As for in the Confederate army, the South weren't allowed to participate until 1865, till then the slaves served in labor work. In the Union army, the south who came to north to escape slavery joined the war, nearly 179,000 joined in 160 units.

    They also contributed in many other relief roles, like nurses, cooks and Blacksmiths. The officers did not believe the fact that black people can fight and made to serve the basic duties like guarding bridges and railroads. They were also spies and scouts in union army.

    Indeed, the role of African - Americans in the civil war was so devoted and all over the place.

    In fact, it was a time for the African - Americans to make the country understand humanity.
