President Polk ordered General Taylor to bring his troops to the Rio Grande because of a suspected threat made by Mexico. Historians have come to believe that this was a challenge to incite war by the United States to Mexico. In April of 1846, war began between the United States and Mexico as a result of the death of General Taylor's quartermaster disappearing. His body was found about two weeks later on April 24, 1846. The next day, a patrol of General Taylor was attacked by Mexicans. What was the name of this war?
