African American combat units were often given difficult tasks.

    Explanation:

During the civil war time the African American soldiers were not given too much of difficult task to be the reason for high death rates. Though it is true that they were not provided with better medical service but the task they were given was fair not that brutal.

The war at that time was so intense that if they were caught by Confederate troops they had direct death and same was offered it they were captured.
