    In the sciences, Newton and Leibniz developed calculus. Newton also discovered the Laws of Motion and Universal Gravitation.

    In philosophy, Descartes inagurated a new era for European philosophy. Before him, philosophy had been dominated by Aristotle.

    The European powers set the colonization of the Americas in full motion and the Columbian exchange became widespread in the two continents.
