Answer: defeat of Spanish Armada had a very big psychological effect because destroyed the myth of the dominance of Spain in the world/oceans. Moreover Elizabeth II defeated Spain of Filip II without any allies. After 1588 Elizabeth II invested much more in overseas adventures (America).

Explanation: defeat of Armada in 1588 did not end Spanish ambitions to eliminate protestantism from Europe. It continued fighting against protestants in the Netherlands and especially in Ireland (Spain sent there regularly its fleets even after 1588). Irish reformation did not succeed completely. English defeated Spanish invasions in Ireland (1601) and in 1603 were able to dominate this island, but alienated its population.
