Prejudice to emancipation proclamation. Lincoln issued emancipation proclamation twice in order to cripple the rebellious confederate states. Lincoln' advisors did not favor emancipation proclamation. They were too apathetic and considered the proclamation to be drastic.

Battle of Antietam gave victory to the union states and this proved favorable for Lincoln to render proclamation. Emancipation proclamation proved president' strong decision-making powers. He stated that this proclamation is a confrontation measure which is necessary to curb the use of slaves in war. There was a shift in focus of the proclamation.

It was given in order to preserve the union from the attacks of rebellious confederate states initially but gradually the effort of proclamation was to stopover slavery. It paved way for the African Americans to ask for freedom. It totally abolished slavery and Lincoln considered this to be the greatest achievement in his life time.
