Option D is the right answer.

    Explanation:

It was France which decided to take up the effort of building the canal, as it required huge manpower; France sold the rights to United States. The terrain was rugged and it comprised of wild jungles. The construction also resulted in landslides and lead to many unforeseen death of the workers.

Mosquitoes posed to be the greatest threat for the diggers as they were attacked by many distressing diseases like malaria and yellow fever. Labor force depleted due to disease. This was analyzed by the US chief Constructor.

They used advanced technology for the explosion of the bugs and they built artificial lakes to raise the ships above the sea level and started to dig deep inside Panama. Thus a huge canal was completed with great difficulties.
