Answer: The Nanking massacre was a mass killing of Chinese citizens and soldiers by the Japanese army, during the Sino-Japanese War. It took place from December 1937 to January 1938.

    Explanation:

In December 1937, Matsui Iwane, commanding general of the Japanese Army, ordered the destruction of Nanking, the capital of the Nationalist China. Japanese soldiers seized Nanking on December 13, and followed Matsui's orders to execute thousands of people. It is estimated that at least 100,000 Chinese died in December and January. When World War II ended, Matsui was found guilty of war crimes and thus executed.
