Women were given the right to vote when the congress ratified the amendment.

    Explanation:

Before 1920 women did not possess the right to vote. They were considered to be inferior and weak. they were perceived to be the people who never had the ability to make decisions. Abolitionists such as Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton are the great women who fought for the women suffrage. Many obstacles such as slavery and racial discrimination were the two evils that lingered in the american society in those days. It was difficult for women to raise their voice for equal rights. None seemed to lend ears.

During the early twentieth century, women were given the rights of enfranchisement. It was twenty years after the civil war, that the women' voice for equal rights reached the Government which had an effect by ratifying the nineteenth amendment that granted equal rights to women despite gender bias.
