    C. Establish colonies for the Spanish crown.

Hernando de Soto first journeyed to the West Indies in hope of making a buck in the slave trade, but as he got older he traveled to the Americas in hopes to get the Spanish Crown in Florida. He did not escape from religious persecution, he adventured out because of his own greed, and he did not treat the Natives well.

Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto embarked on a journey to the Americas mainly in order to establish colonies for the Spanish crown.

    Explanation:

Hernando de Soto was a Spanish seafarer and conquistador. He contributed to the conquest of Panama from 1514 to 1519 and Nicaragua between 1519 and 1524, and conquered Peru with Francisco Pizarro from 1532 to 1535. In 1538 de Soto set out to conquer Florida at his own expense in search of gold and jewels. On May 30, 1539, 600 Spanish and Portuguese cavalry joined his forces in Tampa Bay. For four years, they wandered to Southeast America for treasures. The indigenous people made de Soto and his men penetrate deeper into the wilderness with their misleading promises of treasure. It was during this expedition that he found his death on the shores of Mississippi, in current McArthur, Arkansas.
