    The monarchists predominated, at the beginning of the war though, the condition was inverted within a short time. A democracy, named the Commonwealth of England, was authorized with Oliver Cromwell at its head by overthrown the monarchy. Such a change in England and Europe was a significant move in the conversion of English royal authority, which would slowly shift towards a republican monarchy.
