In the National Socialist ideology, communism was seen as a dangerous enemy ideology that had to be eliminated. So, destroying the communist state was seen as a worthy goal in itself. At the same time, the invasion of the Soviet Union was going to provide new lands, new space for the superior race of Aryans, it was a fulfillment of the Nazi search for Lebensraum, or living space.
